Search is currently seeking to recruit an experienced Program Associate on a part-time basis (15 hours per week) to assist in the implementation of a global project over a three year period from 2018-2020, starting immediately. This position is located in Jerusalem and reports to the Global Director, Religious Engagement who is based in Jerusalem. The associate will also liaise with members of staff in the Global Affairs and Partnership unit based in Washington DC as needed and in the Jerusalem office. The position will be renewed on a year by year basis and will remain part-time throughout the period of the project.
The project’s overall goal is to increase collaboration and reduce violence among diverse religious communities. The main objective is that peacebuilding practitioners effectively engage religious actors and community members in a systematic way that contributes to peacebuilding programs in deeply divided societies.
The Program Associate will research and assist in developing “The Common Ground Approach (CGA) to Religious Engagement,” document based on CGA modules that have been developed in other thematic program areas within Search. This document will serve as Search’s global framework on religious engagement, detailing its approach, methodologies, best practices, and applications for effective and inclusive programming with religious leaders and communities from diverse faith backgrounds. The associate will also assist in adapting the document into a training curriculum for both online and face to face trainings that will serve regional and country-level program staff as they implement religious engagement projects. In addition the associate will carry out basic administrative and financial duties relating to the project.
Your contribution
The roles and responsibilities include:
- Research texts in diverse religions that support the Common Ground Approach to promoting cooperation and reducing violent conflict and synthesize them.
- Work with Search’s global director of religious engagement to create and write Search’s definitive approach to religious engagement
- Assist in the development of training modules for trainers, peacebuilding practitioners and religious actors and adapt them as needed
- Engage as needed with relevant stakeholders at the international and local levels, including faith based organizations, civil society and religious actors, for the purpose of developing materials
- Assist in timely grant reporting and basic financial administration in compliance with Search and donor requirements
- Assist in coordinating monitoring and evaluation efforts

You meet the following qualifications:
Essential:
- Graduate degree in religious and/or interreligious studies.
- At least three (3) years’ experience in working on curriculum and innovative training modules
- At least years (3) years’ experience in writing for public audiences
- Excellent speaking and writing skills in English at native level.
- Basic administrative and financial skills for project implementation
- Excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication skills with a variety of stakeholders
- Knowledge of design, monitoring and evaluation (DM&E) tools
- Team player and positive personality
- Computer literacy proficiency
- Proactive and ability to work independently
Desirable:
- Graduate degree in areas of conflict resolution and peace-building
- Fluency in languages other than English, particularly Arabic, French and Hebrew
- Facilitation skills
