Israel: Regional Manager for Middle East and Northern Africa Region

Diakonia works in Lebanon, the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt), Egypt and Israel. We also run regional programmes for children's literature and for rehabilitation of people with disabilities. Now we are looking for a new regional manager. Diakonias application form shall be filled in and submitted no later than November 27.

The Regional Manager for Middle East and Northern Africa has the overall responsibility for Diakonia’s work in the region and for the Regional office in Jerusalem.

The position is posted in Jerusalem.

Period of time: 2 years (with possibility of extension up to 5 years)

Planned starting time: As soon as possible

Description of tasks:

Be Diakonias official representative taking an active part in strategic discussions on development and human rights in the region aiming at showing Diakonia’s added value in development cooperation, towards Swedish and national authorities, back-donors and partner organizations, as well as towards other stakeholders.

Manage, develop and coordinate the region’s operations on the basis of established guidelines, policy, strategy, budget and other steering documents and within the geographical area.

Establish and strengthen programs, processes and networking, managing existing contracts as well as developing Diakonias fundraising in the region.

Ensure the region’s compliance to the recently introduced new IT-systems and updated PME handbook.

Requirements:

Relevant academic exam.

Training and experience in gender equality work, both internally and in operations.

Proven competence and experience in managerial and human resources leadership.

Proven competence and experience in strategic planning and management of development programs, as well as in budgeting and budget follow up.

Long experience of working with development cooperation.

Good knowledge of and experience of the social, political and cultural context in the region.

Excellent spoken and written English and Swedish.

Experience in IT-based project handling and managerial systems.

Experience in working with and in civil society organizations, preferably in the Middle East and in Sweden.

Committed to working with a rights based approach, including indigenous rights, SRHR and LGBTI rights.

Proven knowledge of Human Rights and Gender Equality. Knowledge of Diakonia’s other thematic areas is an advantage (Democracy, Social and Economic Justice, Conflict and Justice and Humanitarian Action).

Knowledge regarding the Founding Churches of Diakonia.
